The First-Ever Alice in Wonderland Movie.

Just as Tim Burton cast his wife, Helena Bonham Carter, as the Red Queen in his upcoming retelling ofAlice in Wonderland, so did director Cecil Hepworth cast his wife in that same role over 100 years earlier in the first-ever movie made from Lewis Carroll’s story, just 37 years after Carroll wrote it. This badly damaged print has been restored by the British Film Institute, including its original color tinting; but even through the mildew Alice’s size-morphing looks surprisingly convincing. The film is only eight minutes long now; when it premiered in 1903 it ran 12 minutes, the longest movie produced in England at the time. (via Unique Daily)
